Glamour Gowns is a New York City-based record label.

I’m Charlie Kaplan and I started this label in 2023 to put out records from friends and people I admire. I picked the name from Joni Mitchell’s “The Boho Dance” on a purely sensory level; for months, I kept hearing her in my head singing the lyric at unexpected times and eventually realized that it had a fascination for me. I eventually reckoned with what my subconscious was telling me; that I identify with Joni’s nonconformism, and the way she used that song (and others) to describe the confusion and pride of not fitting in to any uniform but her own; just as an actor or model might need to return their glamour gown after leaving the after party, so too did Joni feel like the garb she donned in Bohemia was just that: A costume. People can look beautiful in costumes, and they can look beautiful out of them.

At Glamour Gowns, I’m looking to release albums that feel like the artist who made them, however they’d like to present themselves: adorned or unadorned; in character or out. As long as it’s you.
